Late Dr Hem Chandra Baruah, born in, 1890 at Nagsankar (Jamuguri) obtained his MB from Govt. Medical College, Calcutta. Dr. Baruah was the first Principal of Assam Medical College and served this institution for two different period. He was the Honorary Professor of SPM. He left Assam Medical College in November 1955.

Late Dr G D Kapur, MBBS, MSC, MS, FRCS, FICS born in 1890 at Hafizabad in pre partitioned Punjab, Dr. Kapur graduated in medical in 1913 from K. E. Medical College, Lahore. He also served in the first World War (19-16-19). Subsequently he joined in the Lahore Medical College, first as demonstrator of Anatomy and later as Asst. Professor of Surgery. After partition Dr. Kapur Came to Delhi in 1948 joined the ACM as Head of the Deptt. of Surgery and became Principal cum Supdt. in 1949. He retired in 1952.

Late Dr R Labhya, BSC, MF, DO (Oxford), DOMS (Lond). Born at Peswawar of undivided India, Dr Labhya graduated form Lahore Medical College. He served in Punjab State Service and later joined the first World War as captain. On return from Europe after obtaining DO (Oxon) and DOMS (London) he joined the Medical College, Lahore in the deptt. of Ophthalmology as a Professor. He migrated to India after partition and joined as Prof of Ophthalmology on the later part of 1948. While a Prof he was the Hon Supdt of AMCH of Town Wing (ENT, EYE and M&G section) till 1954.

Late Dr B N Banerjee, BScMB, FRCS (Eng). He was born on 20th Sept 1900 in Hoogly district, graduated from Calcutta Medical College in 1926 topping the List. He served in the Departments of Physiology and finaly tookup surgery and obtained FRCS form England in 1937. On his return he joined Darbhanga Medical Institute and become Professor in 1946 and then Principal in 1952. After retirement he joined the Assam Medical College as Principal-cum-Supdt and head of the Department of Surgery. He passed away on 14th August, 1959.

Late Dr S N Sharma MB DLO (Lond) FRCS (Edin) FICS. Born in 1st January 1981 at Palashbari, Kamrup, Assam. He graduated from Calcutta Medical College in 1941. He served as Assistant Surgeon in Assam form 1942-45. During this period he joined as Medical Officer (Porter Corps at steel well Road) along with Military operation in Kohima. He joined Assam Medical College as Asst. Professor on ENT and Surgery in the Assam Medical College became Professor in 1950 and Principal-cum-Supdt. in 1958. In 1961 he was transferred to Gauhati Medical College.

Late Dr P N Baruah, BSc, MB, LM, DGO LRCS, FRCS (Glasg). Dr Baruah graduated form Calcutta Medical College and left for UK for post graduate studies. On return from UK he joined as Chief Medical Officer in Mobund Tea Co. Ltd, Jorhat. He joined in the Assam Medical college as Asst. Professor of Surgery. He became Professor of Clinical Surgery in 1952 and became the head of the Department in 1959. He became Principal in 1961. He retired form Assam Medical College on 16th December 1962.

Late Dr M N Bhattacharyya, BA (CAL), MB (CAL) MRCP, FCCP. He graduated form Calcutta Medical College in 1946. He joined as Asst Professor of Pharmacology, Assam Medical College and subsequently shifted to Clinical Medicine. he became Professor of Medicine in 1954. He was Principal of Assam Medical College from 1962 to 1962 till his retirement.

Late Dr Nekibuz Zaman, MBBS, FRCS, FACS PADMASHREE. Born on 1929 at Morigaon, Assam, Dr N Zaman graduated from Assam Medical College securing first position in the University. He was the best graduate form the pioneer batch of Assam Medical College. He went to England for higher studies and obtained FRCS form London and Edinburgh in 1957. He Joined as Registrar of Surgery in AMCH in 1953 adn promoted to Asstt Professor in 1958.

Dr B M Goswami, MBBS, FRCP, FCCP, FICA, FIAMS. Born in 1932 in a village Naptipara in Nalbari District, Assam, Dr Goswami graduated form Assam Medical College in 1955 securing fifth position in order of merit. He obtained MD Degree in Medicine from K G Medical College, Lucknow, and passed MRCP from Edinburg in 1960. He achieved FRCP in 1970, FCCP in 1972, FICA in 1973 and Fiams in 1983. He worked as an Asstt Professor of Medicine from 1960 to 1963 in AMC and as Professor of Medicine from 1963 to 1990. During this period he served as Principal and Superintendent in 3 Medical Colleges of Assam.

Dr M A Choudhury, MBBS, FRCS, FFAIMS, FIAMS, FCCP (29-06-85 to 31-03-88). Dr Choudhury born on Aprinl, 1930 at Hailakandi, Assam, graduated from Assam Medical College, in 1954 securing 3rd position in merit list. He obtained FRCS from Edinburg in 1060. He joined as Resident Surgeon in the Deptt of Surgery, AMC in 1957 and promoted to asstt Professor of Surgery in 1961 and subsequently to Professor in 1962. He became Head of the Department and Vice Principal in 1985. He took the charge of Principal in 1986 till his retirement on 31st March, 1988.

Dr. Baruah, born on 15th November, 1936 at Chowkidingee, at Dibrugarh obtained graduation from Assam Medical College in 1995 securing 1st position in the University. He joined as Registrar of Medicine in Assam Medical College in 1960 and proceeded to England for higher studies in 1962. On his return he joined as Asstt Professor of Medicine in Gauhati Medical College and became Professor Medicine in 1976 at Assam Medical College. He became Head of the Department of Medicine, AMC in 1986 and joined as Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, AMC in 1988. In 1990 he was transferred to Gauhati Medical College as Principal and again in 1992 he took over the charge of Principal of AMC till his untimely death on November 24, 1994.

Dr (Mrs) Deepali Dutta, MBBS, MRCP FRGPsyche, DIP, MWPA, FIPS, MJF, Mohila Shiromoni. Dr Dutta graduated from Assam Medical College on and obtained MRCP, FRC PSYCHE. She served a Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, AMCH from 1990 to 1992. She was elected President of Indian Psychiatric Society. She was awarded Mohila Shiromoni in 1990-91 by the Government of India.

Late Dr B Das, MBBS, MD, FIAMS. Dr Das obtained his graduation from Assam Medical College in 1963 and served as demonstrator of Pharmacology in AMC from 1965 to 1968. He then joined as registrar of Medicine in 1968 and got MD in General Medicine from AMC in 1971. he went for Post Doctoral training in Cardiology in the University of London for 2 years. On his return he became Asstt. Professor and subsequently Professor and Head of the Deptt. of Cardiology. He was appointed as Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Silchar Medical College in March 1994 and joined as Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of AMC in November 1994. He retired on February 1997. He passed away on 25-09-2005.

Late Dr Gonesh Chandra Baruah, MBBS, MD. Born on 1942, at Mathiashiga, Sibsagar. Dr Baruah graduated from Assam Medical College on 1965 and joined in the Department of Biochemistry as Demonstrator in 1966. Subsequently he is promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, in 1973 after he obtained MD Degree in 1971. He is trained as WHO Fellow in UK and Denmark. He became Associate Professor in 1979 and Professor of Biochemistry, Assam Medical College in 1986. he worked as the Vice Principal, AMC from 1994 and became Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent in March 1997. He passed away on 21-02-2005.

Dr Nandita Choudhury MBBS, MD, DM. Dr Nandita Choudhury was born on 1946 in Chamota village, few kilometers away form Nalbari. She graduated from Gauhati Medical College in 1967. She obtained DM in Nephrology in PGI, Chandigarh. She was working as Register of Medicine in GMC. She become Assistant Professor and further in 1985 reach the psition of Associate Professor. She went to Guys Hospital, London for advanced training in nephrology. Sherved as Professor and HOD Nephrology in 1990-2002. From 2002 to 2004, she worked as Nephrology Head and administrative services in the post of Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of AMCH.

Dr Taufiqur Rahman Borbora was born 20th August 1948 at AOC Hospital Digboi. He graduated from Assam Medical College in the year 1970. He joined as Registrar of Radiology AMC in December 1973 and during this period, he completed DMRD and MD Radiology. He served as a Assistant Professor from 1978-87 and as Associated Professor till 1991 at AMC and then promoted and transferred to Silchar Medical College as Professor and Head of the Department of Radiology. His first innings as a Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of AMC from 1st Oct. 2004 to 2nd July 2005. Then he become Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent in Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Borpeta. He again returned back to AMC as Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent on 25th May 2007 and remained as Principal upto 2010.

Dr Debojit Hazarika was born on 1st December 1953. He did his Post graduate degree in Radiology in 1981. He joined as Registrar in 1979 in AMC and got promotion as Assistant Professor in 1983 to GMC. In 1993 he became Associate Professor and in 1998 he was promoted to the post of Professor and Head of the Radiology in AMC. On 22nd July 2005 he served AMC as Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent till 24th June 2007.

Dr Pranab Baruwa, MBBS, DTCD, MD, MNAMS, FICS. Dr Pranab Baruwa born to Late Babul Ch. Baruah and Late Smti Aruna Baruah on 4th January 1950 at Nagaon. Had schooling at Nagaon Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School and passed Higher Secondary Examination in 1966 in 1st Division. He Passed MBBS from Gauhati Medical College, under Gauhati University in 1971, DTCD from V.P Chest Institute under Delhi University in 1975, MD in TB & Chest Diseases from Institute of Medical Sciences under BHU, Varanasi in 1981, passed the Membership Examination in Respiratory Medicine conducted by National Medical Board, New Delhi in 1982. Dr Baruwa Joined Medical College Service, Assam in 1982 and served in all the 3 (three) Medical Colleges in Assam in various capacities. i. As Assistant Professor w.e.f 20-10-1982 to 17-11-1987, ii. Dr Atindra Kumar Adhikari, MD (Med), PD Tr Cardiology (AIIMS). Dr Atindra Kumar Adhikari passed his MBBS from Gauhati Medical College in December, 1975 and did his MD (Medicine) from Gauhati Medical College in 1980. He had undergone Post Doctoral training in Cardiology form All India Institute of Medical Science in 1986-1987. He started his career as Registrar (Medical) in Julay 1979 and secured the Medical Colleges of Assam in different capacities. Presently serving as Principal cum Chief Superintendent of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh.
